Celebrating Zulay’s Day: The Story Behind Zulay Kitchen

Family is the foundation of everything we do. Our parents work hard to teach us values, integrity, and resilience, qualities that shape who we become. At Zulay Kitchen, this belief runs deep because our story began with one incredible mother, Zulay.

Every February 23rd, we celebrate two very special occasions: the birthday of Zulay, the mother of our co-founder, Aaron Cordovez, and Zulay’s Day- a moment to honor the heart and inspiration behind our brand.

The Inspiration Behind Zulay Kitchen

“Zulay Kitchen is named after my extraordinary mother, Zulay. She was raised in poverty-stricken Venezuela and, against all odds, brought my brother and me to the US. As a single mother, she worked extra-long hours but still found time to cook healthy meals for us. At the time, I didn’t realize how much of a sacrifice that was. But now that I’m married with children of my own, I see how much of a superhero mom she truly was.” — Aaron Cordovez, Co-Founder

A Birthday Message from Aaron

On her birthday, Aaron shared this heartfelt note to his mother:

“Happy Birthday to you, Mom. You are the most perfect mom there is. You have an abundance of love, faith, and belief in others. You’ve shown me that life is about happiness, creating beautiful moments, and helping others rise. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and you taught me lessons of trust, perseverance, and kindness that I now pass on to my own children. I love you very much, and happy birthday. This world is brighter with you in it.”

From a Family Story to Kitchen Happiness

Aaron and his wife built Zulay Kitchen with this same spirit in mind. They wanted to make cooking easier and faster so families everywhere could spend more time together, enjoying food and creating memories.
