There are a hundred ways to make ginger bread and the holiday season just isn't complete without it. Today we have a simple recipe that's festive and easy to make! It smells great when it bakes too! This special recipe comes from Marcia K.

Ginger Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 med. size mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Square baking dish
  • 1 ½ cup Dark Rye flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pie spice
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp baking soda

    Instructions

    1. Pre heat oven to 360°.
    2. Measure above dry ingredients into large mixing bowl and stir to incorporate into the medium size bowl.
    3. Zest the orange.
    4. Grate enough fresh ginger to make 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp.
    5. Add ½ cup honey.
    6. Juice the orange into the honey mixture and stir.
    7. Add to this: ½ cup each of raisins, dried cherries, chopped dates.
    8. And 1 tbsp molasses.
    9. Stir well.
    10. Add to rye flour and mix until it forms a dough like thickness.
    11. Use butter to prepare the bottom of the baking square and evenly spread the dough into it.
    12. Bake for 35 to 40 min. depending on the oven. It should be soft but not gooey.

    It will start to smell great just before it’s ready. It looks festive with a dusting of powdered sugar over the top!
